The U.N. Threat to Internet Freedom
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingThe Internet has also been a net job creator. A recent McKinsey study found that for every job disrupted by Internet connectivity, 2.6 new jobs are created. It is no coincidence that these wonderful developments blossomed as the Internet migrated further away from government control. Today, however, Russia, China and their allies within the 193 member states of the ITU want to renegotiate the 1988 treaty to expand its reach into previously unregulated areas. Reading even a partial list of proposals that could be codified into international law next December at a conference in Dubai is chilling: Subject cyber...
World Now: Iranian Internet access disrupted, raising fears of censorship
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingREPORTING FROM TEHRAN AND LOS ANGELES -- Internet access was disrupted in Iran on Monday, raising fears that the state might be stepping up censorship ahead of national elections next week. [ ] The Tor network, which helps people connect anonymously to the Internet, reported that its Iranian traffic plunged two weeks ago when problems with https websites were reported earlier, dropping from 50,000 users to nearly zero. The numbers later rebounded as Iranians found ways to work around it. Internet usage has boomed in Iran over the last decade, growing from less than 1% to 13% of Iranians, according to...
Newspaper apocalypse looming? (Dinosaur Media DeathWatch)
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingA new study from the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism highlights an alarming trend among newspapers hoping to carve out a modicum of profitability through digital ad revenues: with very few exceptions, news organizations are failing to cash in on a lucrative form of online advertising. While it's long been held that utilizing consumer data to match advertisers with targeted consumers is "the strategy that many experts consider key to the future of digital revenue," the Pew study reveals, "With only a handful of exceptions, the ads on news sites tend not to be targeted based on...
Does Rick Santorum Believe in the Nanny State?
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingI dont gamble, unless you count investing in stocks gambling. I visit Las Vegas at least once each year. Ive never put a penny in a slot machine, played Black Jack, or spun a roulette wheel. I take advantage of inexpensive hotel rooms (Mon. thru Fri.), great food, shopping, and magic shows. The Hoover Dam is a great visit as well as a number of museums. Dont forget the pawn shops. The pawn shop is the best friend of gamblers who dont know when to quit and need enough money for their flight back home. If you ever pass through...
Federal Judge Puts Internet Pioneer in Civil Lockdown
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingNote: Judge appointed by President Clinton When Jeff Baron came to Washington this month, he was wearing a borrowed suit. Once upon a time, the Internet pioneer -- who taught himself computer programming and created innovative software to register domain names -- lived the good life in a Dallas suburb. His company, Ondova, was a cash cow, pulling in $1.5 million in profit each month. It all started unraveling when Baron, now 44, hired some high-powered Texas attorneys to help manage his holdings, and he was approached by a potential business partner who promised to turn Ondova into the next...
Why Europes New Right to Be Forgotten Rule Must Be Forgotten
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingIn the end of January, the European Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights, and Citizenship, Viviane Reding, said that the Commission proposed a new data protection regulation called the right to be forgotten. This rule, though sounding innocuous, is probably the biggest threat to free speech on the Internet, as law professor Jeffrey Rosen put it. The right to be forgotten requires social networks, such as Facebook and Google, to comply with the requests of their users and delete items that these individuals have published on the Internet. If the companies refuse the users requests, the EU could fine these companies...

My experience with the IRGC [they get reckless]
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingSNIPPET: "Reckless doesn't mean not dangerous. Quite the opposite. They may fail spectacularly, or be wildly successful. One thing I believe we can count on is that they will take risks, act swiftly, and burn as many assets as they have to along the way in order to do what Khamenei wants."

Musing on Internet Shock
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingBetween online banking, Online shopping, credit card payments, e- mail, cell phones and texting...it's been so long since I've actually sent *anything* "snail mail", that I literally had to check online to find out that the postal rate for a letter has gone up twice since the last time I sent a letter USPS. Fortunately I has a roll of 1 cebt stamps to cover the increase without having to go to the post office, but it still felt weird.

Are gun sales arranged online a 'loophole'?
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingYesterday, MSNBC's Today Show started its new feature, the "Rossen Reports," by Jeff Rossen. Rossen's first story: "Anyone can buy guns, no questions asked." The implication, of course, is that for Americans to exercise their Constitutionally guaranteed, fundamental human right to keep and bear arms--the right, not to put too fine a point on it, that shall not be infringed--we should be subjected to a battery of questions. Rossen breathlessly reports: Hundreds of thousands of guns are for sale, on hundreds of websites. We responded and set up meetings at popular shopping malls. We bought everything from a police-grade pistol...
What if Palin Were Running? (Strange article w/even odder comments)
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingThe door has closed on Sarah Palin running for president as a Republican. Even if she changed her mind and threw in her hat, the calendar and delegate count would put the GOP nomination out of reach. She has also said repeatedly she's not interested, and threw passive support to Newt Gingrich. But consider for a moment that Palin was running, how would she do? With so many media and voter variables at play, it's hard to know for sure. But the Election Oracle shows something unique for Palin. She enjoys extremely high regard online on Wednesday her favorability...
Facebook murder: Tennessee couple killed in their home after 'defriending' woman
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingPolice in Tennessee have arrested the jilted woman's father and another man and charged them with murder. Billy Clay Payne and Billie Jean Hayworth were killed last month after they deleted Jenelle Potter, the daughter of one of the suspects, from their "friends" list. Both were shot in the head and Mr Payne's throat was cut. The couple's eight-month-old baby was found in the mother's arms, unharmed, when the bodies were discovered. "It's the worst thing I've ever seen," said Johnson County Sheriff Mike Reece, who has worked in local law enforcement for 27 years. "We've had murders, but nothing...
OMG! The Internet! Guns! Guns for Sale on the Internet!
Posted by admin / Under Internet MarketingToday is so yesterday. While the show remains a cash cow, TodayÂs production team canÂt show up at J-school lecture halls without the cloying smell of 80â²s happy talk overpowering their intellectual pretensions. And so Today is dipping its collective toe into . . . wait for it . . . investigative journalism. What better way to kick off their new venture than a cookie-cutter piece of EAT-G (Easy Access to Guns)? Did you know you can buy guns over the Internet without an FFL and FBI background check? Only one problem . . . YOU CANÂT. But that kind...
